Rats

No one likes rats but they seem to be a bigger and bigger problem in our City. After hear complaints from various neighborhood groups SEAC wrote a letter and distributed it to neighborhood and business associations throughout the city. We had over 30 groups sign on representing all parts of the City.

That letter was sent to the County on October 1st. The recent issue of City Newspaper covered our effort and a response from the county.

At this time we ask that neighbors and association contact their county legislators to ask the county for a more robust response to the issue. We also encourage everyone who sees rats to contact the county at 753-5171 as they claim calls have declined this year.

Home for the Holidays: Park Avenue Historic District Edition

Home for the HolidaysJoin the South East Area Coalition and The Landmark Society of Western New York, Inc. as we raise funds to complete the Park Avenue Historic District Project.

The Landmark Society has been working with Park-Meigs Neighborhood Association, Barrington St. Neighborhood Association, & ABC Streets Neighborhood Association to list Park Avenue in the National Register of Historic Places. This would create a new historic district from Park Ave South to 490 and Monroe(north of Park ave is already in a historic district!). Neighbors would then be able to take advantage of Historic Homeowners Tax Credits to make repairs and upgrades to their homes!

Help us with the final stretch. Invite your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues out for a evening with raffles from Park Avenue business, test your knowledge with Park Ave history quiz and win some Landmark swag.

$15 suggested donation with all funds going toward the Park Avenue Historic District.

Call for Artist – Playfinders

SEAC is happy to announce our Call for Artist for our Playfinder initiative. Funded by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Legacy Fund for Youth Sports, we will be using playful sidewalks as way-finders to parks.  SEAC will be implementing these playfinders over the summer and fall at two parks. We are working alongside the City of Rochester’s 10 Minute Walk to Parks Campaign. Pleases find the attached call for artist and additional material.

SEAC turns 50!

Facebook_Gala graphicIn 1968 a group of concerned residents from various southeast Rochester neighborhoods began meeting on how to work together to improve their community and formed the South East Area Coalition (SEAC). For the last 50 years SEAC has been proudly served these neighborhoods through community advocacy, affordable housing projects, supporting local businesses and grassroots community engagement. SEAC’s work has brought millions of dollars in investments and impacted countless lives.

SEAC’s Golden Anniversary Gala will be on June 8th at the Harro East Ballroom. Featuring a live musical performance, great auction and raffle items from our neighborhoods unique businesses, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and drinks.

All proceeds from this event will be dedicated directly to grassroots community projects that make our neighborhoods more attractive to live work and play. Your sponsorship will go further, with acknowledgement and tabling opportunities with the projects funded.  Projects like our playfinders, playful sidewalks that lead kids and their families to parks, or an initiative to have little free library incorporated into seating at bus stops, or start up funds for a community garden were residents can grow food.

We are currently seeking sponsor and donation items for the event.
