Xerox Planting Pollinator Garden at Webster Arboretum

Xerox announces creation of new pollinator garden to support the local community

Webster, N.Y. —  As part of their commitment to promoting sustainability and carbon reduction, Xerox Corporation  will create a 20 foot by 20 foot pollinator garden today at the Webster Arboretum. Just miles  away from Xerox HQ, the Arboretum is an ideal location  for residents, tourists, and pollinators to visit. The  garden is designed to support flora and ecological systems indigenous to that region which attract insects and fauna   that promote  pollination in the vicinity.

“The effort is partially to support Xerox’s annual month of service and partially to bring awareness to the importance of native pollinators in the ecosystem. To that end, we’re planting wildflowers and grasses native to upstate NY and adding structures like a birdbath, bee condos, and birdhouses to provide water and shelter to the animals that feed off said plants, “ said Izzy ,  Updike, Xerox sustainability analyst.

More than 20 Xerox employees will come together to dig, till, and plant the 400 sq. ft. plot. “I have wanted to do this for years and am so happy we are completing it before I retire,” said senior environmental engineer Danelle Giannini, who has worked at Xerox in environment  and productivity for 25 years.

Having recently sponsored the South East Area Coalition (SEAC) Tool Shed, Xerox was excited to put their “contractor level” membership to use by borrowing the various items they need to complete the project. SEAC opened a tool lending program at 1255 University Ave, C010 (Lower Level) in the City of Rochester in April. The library, called the “Tool Shed,” is open to all Rochester area residents who want to borrow  tools   rather than spend money on  new ones

“Tools are expensive and shouldn’t be an obstacle to anyone wanting to do repairs on their home, start a business, or support their community.” said Mike Evans, SEAC’s Executive Director.   SEAC’s Tool Shed memberships start at only $25 a year!  You can rent up to five tools, each time, unlimited times a year!  For more information on memberships, please visit seactoolshed.org/membership.
